A day with Elephants
The Karnataka Forest Department has about 150 Elephants in various camps and Dubare has been historically an important camp. The Elephants for the famous Mysore Dassehra were trained at Dubare elephant camp. But presently after logging operations have ceased, the Forest Department does not really know what to do with all its elephants! They (elephants) have been practically retired except for giving some rides to odd tourists.
At the Dubare Elephant Camp, a visitor can spend hours simply watching Elephants and of course, learning more about them. A trained Naturalist is at hand to explain the various aspects of Elephant history, ecology and biology. The visitor can not only observe and learn but also participate in various activities involving Elephants.
Guests would leave our camp feeling enriched and enlightened about Elephants and hopefully they would become sensitive to their plight in the wild and join the lobby to save them from extinction.
Cycling in Coorg
This region offers a diverse range of easy to challenging cycling trails which we have meticulously explored and mapped. We have a stable of Trek mountain bikes, which are very well suited to the requirements of these trails. Our cycling trails last from half a day to 5 days.
This trail is exposed to the sun and so you need to start early to beat the noonday sun.
The trail will be going around the base of a huge hill surging out of the the surrounding plains. During the course of the ride you can choose to stop at many points of interest – small but famous temples, a bamboo handicrafts factory, an NGO that supports hundreds of local women with livelihood, a biodiversity research station, a tribal hamlet. The smooth tarmac will suddenly plunge down to back country roads and then land you into a mud trail cutting through paddy fields. The physical challenge of negotiating this section will be compensated by the view when you start following the shoreline of the shimmering lake. You will take a break at the dam and take in the view of the distant rampart of mountains.
The rides will pass through patches of mud trail, back country roads and smooth tarmac to finally land you close to your destination. You will be passing through many villages and can stop for local interaction and to tuck into local delicacies on the way.
Hot Air Ballooning
A recent ad said, “When was the last time you did something for the first time?” Well, I just did. I took my maiden flight in a hot air balloon with iTravel. And I don’t think I’ve really come down to earth yet!
Bustling activities around and a mammoth balloon is being unwrapped, forcing the cameras to come out, a pilot lashes out those flame throwers as the balloon is heated to fly high. You get into that gondola until the ropes are cut and you fly like a bird up, up and above. Truly an experience of a life time isn’t it. Fly over the sand dunes to the magnificent forts to the thick forests around Rajasthan. A trip which can be truly called an experience.
Explore the mountains on Yak Backs
The most interesting of all adventure activities, Yak Safaris can be enjoyed in Spiti. An experience complete from travel to food to yak back safaris alongside explore the flora and fauna of the trans-Himalayan desert.
